10 Last-Minute Halloween Ideas

By Jess Stanier

Maximum impact, minimum input. What can you dress as for Halloween on a tight budget and with less than 10 minutes to get ready?

Infact, how many Halloween fancy dress outfits can you make with a good old black bin bag and a couple of other staples? Well, our Snap CEO Tom Le Sueur gave me the challenge of creating as many Halloween outfits as possible with a budget of just £30.

I managed to make ten outfits – and had the whole Snap team dressed in my DIY Halloween fancy dress costumes ready for the big day.

How’d I do it? Well to be honest I reinvented Mumma Stan’s Halloween go-to… the black bin bag.

Think back to Halloween as a kid. If you’re anywhere near the mean age of us Snappers, your Halloween memories will be all about the good-old garbage bag. This household item was so versatile, it became the staple go-to for Mums across the UK, for pretty much all Halloween outfits.

Twenty years later, Halloween outfits are bigger and better than ever before. It takes hours if not days to craft the perfect outfit, and not to mention some serious budget.

Our much-loved black bin bag rags are long gone. But I say… Bring back the bin bag! After all, it is the perfect item for low cost, easy, last-minute, effective halloween outfits (?!). So, with my team of minions, we put it to the test…

Quick shout out to my nine fabulous colleagues who are always up for some fun, for the amazing ‘dry ice’ effects in our photos created by Luke’s vape, and of course our photographer PTF Motion, for taking the winning shots, and all on his mobile. Thanks Petey!

Without further ado, check out our last minute Halloween costumes and what our Instagram followers rated each fancy dress outfit – along with our tips on what you need, how long each took and each cost.

2 x black bin bags, 2 x pieces of A4 paper in white, sellotape, white make up and black liquid eyeliner.

Time to create:

Cut a hole in the bin bag for head and arms. Put on the bin bag, and wrap another bin bag around the head. Use the leftover card as an upside down cross, and staple it to a piece of string as a necklace – we coloured this in with a highlighter.

Put hair in two buns for ears, cut A4 card into ear shapes and sellotape around the buns, use eyeliner for whiskers and cat nose.
