How to Measure the Performance of your Business Online

Measuring Business Online

These days, it’s pretty easy to get hold of stats and graphs that can tell you a bit about how your business is performing online. But the key to success lies in truly understanding how to transform your data into actions that align with your business objectives.

Unlocking your data can help you to create more of an impact and make better decisions. With all the awesome digital tools now at our disposal, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be taking advantage of your data.

There are plenty of free tools out there that can get you started. Here are a few of our favourites!

Google Analytics

Google Analytics is the go-to tool for many businesses. This handy bit of web software can tell you a lot about how your website is performing. For example, you can see how people are reaching your site and interacting with each page.

You can see your website visitor’s location, device, age range, gender and referring channel allowing you to see who is using your website and most importantly, who is converting into a paying customer. This data is invaluable when you come to creating the audiences and setting the budgets for your Social Media and Search Engine Marketing campaigns.

BuzzSumo

BuzzSumo doesn’t analyse your business data. Instead, it lets you see data on the performance of top influencers’ content. This can be just as informative! The website lets you search keywords and topics to see the top-performing content in terms of social media engagement and shares. Seeing how industry leaders are creating exceptional content using this tool can help to inspire some of your own.

Google Search Console

Search Console is another free tool from Google that helps you monitor, maintain and troubleshoot your website’s presence in the search results. You don’t have to have a search console account to be able to show up in the search results, however, it does help you understand and improve how Google views your site. The more you act on the search console’s suggestions, the more likely you are to appear at the top of the search results for your keywords.

Search Console offers tools and reports for the following actions:

  • Confirm that Google can find and crawl your site.
  • Fix indexing problems and request re-indexing of new or updated content.
  • View Google Search traffic data for your site: how often your site appears in Google Search, which search queries show your site, how often searchers click through for those queries, and more.
  • Receive alerts when Google encounters indexing, spam, or other issues on your site.
  • Show you which sites link to your website.
  • Troubleshoot issues for AMP, mobile usability, and other search features.

Ubersuggest

Specifically created to improve your search engine rankings, Ubersuggest is a free tool set up by marketing expert Neil Patel. It allows you to perform keyword research so that you can see the competition, cost per click and average monthly searches for any key phrase. You will also be able to analyse the performance of your website as well as your competitor’s websites to help identify improvements that will help you jump above your competitors in the search rankings.

The four tools we’ve shared here are very useful, but they only just scratch the surface. If you really want to maximise online potential, you should bring in the experts!

We offer Digital Audits that consider your brand, web presence, marketing activity, and business goals in relation to your data. By putting your business under the microscope, we can help you to make game-changing improvements.
